I made it up National Park Mountain on my second attempt. My first attempt was up the Three Brothers Mountains. I couldn't get to the Madison Plateau that way. So I swam across the Firehole River, hiked/climbed a ravine, and made my way through the downed trees and little lodgepole pines to the top. Yeah! The view was awesome. Here is a birds-eye view of the Madison ranger station.

You swam across a river? Was that ice cold river water or hot springs water? And what did you do with all the clothes and hiking gear? I think all the views out there are awesome!
ReplyDeleteYup, had to swim the Firehole river. It's pretty warm, by Yellowstone standards, due to the geothermals up-river from there. Maybe 70 degrees. I put my clothes and backpack in a dry bag and floated it across. Fun, fun...
